Talking about honeymoon locations is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning! It’s every engaged couples “light at the end of the tunnel.” Long awaited and well deserved by the time the wedding has come and gone. It may also be the only thing the two of you agree on through the local or destination wedding planning process too! 😉
So where do you start with trying to plan your unforgettable honeymoon? Today we’d like to give you some tips on how to narrow down the location you’ll enjoy most and a step by step timeline for you to follow as you plan your Wanderlust Honeymoon!
1.) Start planning your honeymoon at least 8 months before your desired date! Why?
- – The best and most unique honeymoon locations book early and fast. So to get your first picks in your desired locations it’s best to plan and book early!
- – You can then register your honeymoon plans for guests to contribute to allowing you to save on or increase your honeymoon funds! We have a super awesome Adventure Honeymoon Registry coming soon, stay tuned for the launch in January 2017!
- – Gives you time to renew your passport before that awesome Wanderlust Honeymoon! Remember: Most destinations require your passport to have 6 months left at time of entry/exit. Also many countries require you to have 3 pages of stampable space free.
- – Allows you more time to apply for any VISA’s you may need to get into the country you’re thinking about!
- – A personal tip from me… Give yourself time between your wedding day and your honeymoon. It not only gives you time to save more but the stress level will be less and you’ll enjoy it more! Plus, who doesn’t want to prolong that delicious newlywed bliss!
2.) You need to decide as a couple what sort of honeymoon you want to have…
- – Are you lay on the beach, read, and relax types? (Warm climate Beach Honeymoon locations would be best)
- – Are you a 100% action-packed adventure (and “sleep when you’re dead,” sort of travelers)? See yourself hiking, skiing, ziplining, skydiving, ATV-ing, ice-climbing on a glacier, waterfall hunting, caving, canyoneering, coasteering, or some other epic extreme sports? Adventurous Honeymoon locations would be best for you!
- – Do you love to eat, walk city streets, and be amazed by architecture? A City Honeymoon may be most fun for you!
- – Do you want to be whisked away in old world romance? Then a Romantic Honeymoon would be intoxicating for you!
- – Does the idea of walking through movie and tv show filming spots sound like amazing fun to you? Then a Theme Honeymoon would be perfect for you! Hello Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Life of Walter Mitty, the list is truly endless!
- – Are you a couple who like to explore offbeat locations by yourself by driving, hiking, waterfall hunting, and taking tons of amazing photographs? You may fall in love with the idea of having a kickass Self Drive Road Trip Honeymoon in some really awesome locations!
- – Love the idea of cruising along to locations without driving or flying to each stop? Then a Honeymoon Cruise somewhere exotic will be an exciting experience for you!
- – Are you wine or champagne connoisseur? A Vineyard Honeymoon in offbeat wine country may be up your alley!
3.) Decide on a Honeymoon Budget.
- – Do you desire to have a luxury honeymoon?
- – Need to stay under a certain budget for travel, accommodation, food, and activities?
4.) Figure out how long of a honeymoon adventure you can take and when.
- – 5 day Honeymoon
- – 7 day Honeymoon
- – 10 day Honeymoon
- – 15 days Honeymoon

6.) Agree on where you’re going to take your honeymoon!

7.) Purchase your plane tickets! Woohoo!
8.) Book your accommodations.
9.) Reserve your spots for your amazing adventures (if going with a tour company).
10.) Book your honeymoon transportation if needed (to/from the hotel) or book your rental car/truck.
11.) Plan your adventure day by day (again, important to do if you have not hired us) and any “Plan B” routes you may need (IE, road closures or inclement weather).
12.) Think about purchasing Travel Insurance.
13.) Get any vaccinations that are suggested for the country you may be heading to.
14.) Make any final reservations and confirmations for dinner, events, activities, and any island hopping!
15.) PACK!
